Campaign FAQ
What is the Proclaim His Glory
campaign?
Proclaim His Glory is a capital stewardship campaign, in which
God's people at First Presbyterian Church are asked to make a
three year financial commitment beyond their regular giving.
Why are we raising capital funds? How will the capital funds be
used?
The funds raised in this campaign will be used to build a new
sanctuary and to add an elevator in our educational building to
accommodate members and visitors with physical disabilities.
Why are we replacing the Sanctuary? A structural engineer
carefully evaluated the sanctuary and determined that it had limited
remaining life because the foundation was not adequately designed
for the soft soil. Temporary fixes have made it safe to use, but
it needs to be replaced soon.
I've heard we've hired an outside consultant to help us with
the campaign. Isn't this a lack of faith on our part? No more
than using an architect or going to the doctor. A consultant is
a professional we hire by faith to help raise funds for the new
building. Statistics show that churches using a consultant raise
an average of double the amount of churches who don't, even with
the consultant's fee. This seems prudent stewardship indeed.
How long will the campaign last? The actual campaign will
only be 4 weeks. However, we will be giving our gifts over a three
year period.
How much money will we need to raise?
1.5 Million
Don't we already have a lot of money in the bank? We do.
All of our previous stocks and assets have been placed into short
term Certificates of Deposit for building purposes.
What about the money from the sale of the Manse? Doesn't it
require congregational approval? Yes it does. A congregational
meeting will be held in the near future to approve use of these
funds for the building before they are spent.
Is this considered part of my tithe? No. Your commitment
should be above and beyond your regular giving.
What if my financial picture changes and I need to change my commitment?
Historically we understand that peoples' circumstances change.
Some will be able to give more while others won't. He will not
ask you to give what He won't also provide.
What about new members that come after the initial campaign?
People that are new to our church are encouraged to participate
in the campaign.
What commitments will be asked of me?
You are asked first to make a commitment to pray. Pray that God
will be glorified in our church, and in the lives of all those
whom he will touch through this campaign. Pray also for God to
show you what role he wants you to play in this effort.
Second, you are being asked to step out
in faith and make a 3 year commitment to giving sacrificially
to help us proclaim His glory. Ultimately that is what this stewardship
campaign is about: bringing glory to the Triune God, and passionately
following our commitment to making disciples of Jesus Christ.
Can I give gifts that are not cash? You can. By not selling
appreciated assets like stocks, land, etc. you may be able to
give a substantial gift and not have to pay taxes on the transaction
while getting a full deduction for tax purposes. If you would
like more information on these options, please contact David Smith
or Bud Johnston.
Who do I contact if I have other questions? These members
have agreed to serve in leadership positions, and welcome your
inquiries:
